Climb Spain

Escape on a sport climbing trip to the world class El Chorro, Andalusia, Spain.

This picturesque area is a popular winter sun destination for climbers from all over Europe and the World. The conditions are perfect for climbing from Autumn through Winter until the end of Spring.

A short blog – top tips for your first sport climbing trip.
New 2017 dates – book your place at the bottom of this page.

World class sport climbing

Reliable weather systems, ease of access and great food… why not escape the confines of the indoor wall as the UK weather deteriorates? It’s only a three-hour flight from the UK and we’ll even Carbon offset the flight for you!

Considerate bolting (not too far apart) makes for a friendly introduction to leading. Or for the more experienced it allows the comfort and mind space to concentrate on perfect movement and improving technique. A full range of grades and styles allows you to develop your climbing in a targeted way.

Aims for the course

The focus is always tailored to your requirements but can cover…

  • An introduction to sport climbing
  • Indoor climber to outdoor transition
  • The road to being a safe and independent outdoor climber
  • Pushing your grade in a structured and progressive way
  • Simply enjoy getting loads of climbing done with our experienced and fun instructors

There are crags here that cater to the full range of climbing abilities from grade 4 up. They tend to be easy access with most approaches taking about 5 – 30 minutes. From our accommodation, the closest crags are 5 minutes’ walk away. It feels great to roll out of bed and straight onto world class limestone, wearing a t-shirt, in December. Winner.

Even if your eventual aim is to be leading ‘trad routes’ in the UK this is a great place to go. A solid foundation of climbing technique should result in a far more stylish, controlled and ultimately faster progression when it comes to learning to trad. climb in the UK.

How your course will run

The courses start from four days in length, a long weekend. We can happily add extra days, for up to 7 days of instruction (plus a rest day after the first 4).

It’s all about sport climbing here, single pitch and multipitch, across the grades. Sport climbing lends itself perfectly to a focus on improving efficient and safe movement skills on the rock. You are free from the challenges of placing traditional protection and can just enjoy the climbing.

Each evening we’ll discuss the day and make sure everyone is happy with the progressive plan for the next days. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to build on skills and techniques most appropriate for your level.

There are massive climbing benefits to be gained from a focused sport climbing trip.

Accommodation and food

Our recommended place to stay has en-suite private rooms, bunkhouse beds or camping in the olive grove (you can even borrow a tent).  They do a great full breakfast and dinner or there is a campers kitchen for making your own gourmet delights.

Book directly with The Olive Branch and let them know you’re coming with us!

Well priced Tapas is easily found in the local towns, as is cold beer, after a days climbing there isn’t much that could be better!

You are also free to find your own place to stay in or nearby El Chorro there are heaps of good options about.

Accommodation and food are not included in the price. You’re paying for professional climbing instruction and coaching for the duration of the trip.

Transport

We can pick you up at Malaga airport or from El Chorro train station. If you hire your own car we can meet at the accommodation the night before your course starts. Easy.
